The Name Game

my bwilliant fwiend
Fwankie Fuwtew has asked us all to play the name game fow the Fouwf of July

I think it's a pawfect idea and so I hope all of you will play along
I bet evewyone has faboolous stowies of how they gots theiw nameses

The stowy of my name is known to most of you, but I'll wepeat it anyway

My Mommi sowt of is obsessed by the past..mostly the late thiwties and fowties
Hew favowite buildings in NewYawk awe the ones fwom that Deco Ewa

she aways loved the moosic, the fuwnitoowe, the whole thing and loved the old whacky Thin Man Movies
(no big caw chases, no vampiwes, nothing vewy scawy, just silly and fun)
soooo, they moved to NewYawk and decided to live like Nick and Nowa Chawles..get the pawfect Wiwy kid, dwink mawtoonis and love each othew to bits

theiw fiwst doggie was Nikki  (named of couwse fow the main mistew in those moovies) at that point, my pawents wewe twying to be not so obvious

Nikki was pawfect!!!Handsome, clevew sweet..he twaveled wif them evewywhewe (in those days my Gwammpapa was alive and living in Oowope, so they went thewe evewy yeaw)

Nikki made theiw lives bettew in evewy way

aftew a while, he weally looked like he was  living in a ThinMan Movie, hehehe

since having Nikki was soo pawfect, what could be bettew!

well getting Nowa and Chawlie of couwse, hehehe

fow a while  they had thwee foxie kids and life was pawfect

but  time passed and Nikki, Nowa and Chawlie all went to play ovew the wainbow bwidge

Mommi was heawtbwoken and said she nevew wanted to go thwoo that much pain again and so no mowe fuwwkids

well, you can imagine how long that wesolve stayed, hehehehe..the house was too quiet and empty and they heawd about a foxy giwl  who was weady fow  a home  in Nowf Cawolina..(just when they would be thewe visiting fwiends fow Thanksgiving)

what to name hew(they had wun out of the hooman names fwom the movie..now it was time to be obvious and continoo the legacy)

so that's how i became Asta
it's a vewy famoos name and a lot to live up to

I'm doing my best to keep the spiwit of it alive, and doing it one bettew
(hewe I am celebwating the fiwst DWB chat wif Mommi)

as fow my pawents, they awe still cwazy, and pwetty much living like Nick and Nowa Chawles

Happy fouwf of July evewyone!!!!
hope the fiwewowks don't bothew you and you get lots of nummie tweats and play along wif this game

smoochie kisses

Dear Asta,

That mom was doing one of those crossword puzzles a few days ago and 33 down was "Nick and Nora's pooch." She's really lucky I was there to give her the answer, which I know because of y-o-u!

When my Grandma and Grandpa heard that momma visited a WFT in NYC and her name was Asta, they said, "of course it is." Momma loves the Thin Man and so do my grandma and grandpa.

How lonely those days must have been when mommi and daddi did not have any fur kids at all. Momma says that is why I had to get stupid PeeWee because then there will be a little backup dog for when I am ready to join Beautiful Raja and Grandpa Angus and all my friends over the bridge (but not for a long time, I promise).

Hi Asta-

We love the 'Thin Man' movies.
We did not know your whole family history and the foxy terriers before you. Thanks for sharing!
We had a Mozart theme going for awhile...Mozart the cat, Leopold the first Dale, then Constanza....but ran out of ideas when I came along!

P.S. What a cute baby dog you were!

Oh, Asta, we just LUVS your name and the names of all your fur siblings! My mom luvs those movies a lot and often says that she wishes life was more like them! My mom and dad even thoughts about naming ME Asta cuz of those movies but, well, they think that that name should really belong to a sophisticated WFT like yourself! Oh! Does your mom and dad go around solving mysteries and murders and stuffs?

Asta, we love hearing how you got your name. Our mom vaguely remembers the Thin Man. (Not because she isn't old enough to remember!) She does remember Asta the WFT! And she remembers seeing it on the black and white TV! That's very cool that your pawrents get to live like Nick and Nora!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July. We hope the fireworks don't bother you!

Hi Asta - happy fourth of July to you and your family!

We've been having so much fun with Frankie's great name game! Funnily enough, we posted about how we got our names a few weeks ago so we haven't joined in in pupson, but we're really enjoying hearing about how our pals got their names.

As new pals to you we didn't know about your name and were intrigued about how it came to be so we really enjoyed this post. It was nice to see the pups that came before you too, good memories are such lovely things.

Wow. Living like Nick and Nora Charles is like a very charmed life or something isn't it? Blog Mom used to watch the TV show version. She figured you were named for that Asta, but she never imagined the rest.

Your name story is so romantic. Makes Moma think of "the good old days." And we heard her muttering something about finding old copies of the thin man.

Did you watch the fireworks tonight? Could you see them out your window? We're hoping it was a good day (and night) Asta.

Hugs to your people

This was a totally fabulous post, Asta! Loved all those pictures-they reminded Parental unit about her beloved Carson, my predecessor.
Parental Unit got Carson the week that Johnny Carson retired, back in May of '92'. Parental Unit was so heartbroken over not having Johnny to watch every night, she just had to pay the man who made her laugh for 30 years a tribute... Speaking of tributes, watch for Carson's this week! Finally!
