"...the wire fox terrier, according to the aristocracy, was a dog for the common man,fit only for'the traveling tinker and the itinerant rat-catcher'.....but slowly the wire-haired fox terrier became fashionable too"
The Wire-Haired Fox Terrier was developed in England by fox hunting enthusiasts and is believed descended from a now-extinct rough-coated, black-and-tan working terrier of Wales, Derbyshire, and Durham. The breed was also believed to have been bred to chase foxes into their burrows underground, and their short, strong, usually docked, tails were used handles by the hunter to pull them back out. :)OUCH!!!!!!! hehehe, actually it doesn't huwt at all to be pulled by our tails..Mommi gwabs me like that all the time.
Size, Proportion, Substance -According to present-day requirements, a full-sized, well balanced dog should not exceed 15½ inches at the withers--the bitch being proportionately lower--nor should the length of back from withers to root of tail exceed 12 inches, while to maintain the relative proportions, the head-as mentioned below-should not exceed 7¼ inches or be less than 7 inches. A dog with these measurements should scale 18 pounds in show condition--a bitch weighing some two pounds less--with a margin of one pound either way.Obviously I don't have any of these measuwement..and I'm not telling what mine awe
Although it is said Queen Victoria owned one, the Wire-Haired Fox Terrier was not popular as a family pet until the 1930s, when The Thin Man series of feature films was created. Asta, the canine member of the Charles family, was a Wire-Haired Fox Terrier, and the popularity of the breed soared. Milou (Snowy) from The Adventures of Tintin comic strip is also a wire-haired Fox Terrier.
The Wire Fox Terrier has the distinction of having received more Best in Show titles at major conformation shows than any other breed.Wire-Haired Fox Terriers kept as pets show the loyalty, intelligence, and breeding befitting such a storied breed.
We're small.., but we have no idea that we're not hoogeWe love to play in the gweat outdoors,
but,we're quite adaptable, and can live in an apawtement as long as we get plenty of excercise
We were bwead to go into fiewce combat with wats and foxes.."the tewwiew leans towards foolhardiness in defending his chawges against mawaudews.."
We can wun like the wind
We can sing
We can dance
We make excellent snuggly, playful companions
some say we're difficult...."Fox Terriers are born with about four times as much original sin in them as other dogs"Jerome K. Jerome................I say phooey!" I think we're pawfect," Asta(gift from heavenKroon)

Excellent job on the history of us foxies, Asta. I think the measurements are wrong, too. Kinda like Barbie's. You know, impossible to live up to by any real dog.
I am the 4th wft in my family since 1975. All of us share the same characteristics, while remaining individuals. We wire fox terriers are all beautiful, loving, friendly, emotional, fun, humorous, (one show judge called us "little clowns in fur suits"), independent, intelligent, feisty, loyal, stubborn, brave. We are tightly wound, but I like to call that "enthusiastic". In short, we are prety terrific!
I love your royal picture. Nice job!
Lots of Koobuss Kisses,
Your friend Koobie
P. S. We aso have a great smile!
Koobie

Excellent job Asta! I love the picture of you sitting in the bathroom sink! Are you getting ready to brush your teeth?
Love ya lots,
Maggie
Hey, Sweetpea!
Your description was maulvelous, but I think you could have told the whole history and description of Foxies just with your photos. You are a great spokespup for your breed girlie (and it looks like your measurments got out anyway - they sounded good to me).
One of my fave photos of you is the "Singing Asta." I would love to hear that bootiful clear foxy voice of yours ringing out. (Must get some video of that).
Hope you got to run like the wind at the wun today or near the river!
Gooberlicious love & kisses,
Stanley
Wow, you're a nifty pooch, Asta! I came over on recommendation by Diva Kitty and the Fluffies. They always have good taste in animal friends!
Mom told me to tell you that she loves your name - something to do with some old movies she likes to watch. I'm lucky that way. We can't see color, but my beans watch black and white movies all the time so it doesn't matter.
-Woof! (China)
Hi Asta!
Don't worry! I'm doing just fine - my mommy just worries waaay too much about me, hehe.
I really enjoyed reading your history and findings on our breed! I can't tell ya how annoying it is to be out and about with my humans when someone asks them what breed I am! I tell ya, everyone should know about us lovable wirey fox terriers!
A couple of times, people asked my mommy if I was "one of those yorkshire terriers"!! Can you believe that?! I look nothing like a yorkie! Some humans are so silly.
Well, better get back to napping. My mommy says she's going to post some pictures from my first bath soon - OH! how embarrassing for me :-/ I may not be able to show my adorable lil puppy face on the web after that!
Take care dear friend!
Lancelot

Oh, you seem like a really wonderful fun dog, Asta! I am glad you are Diva Kitty Sophia's nomss friend!
Your friend Karl
from The Cat Realm where the nomss Dare was posted
Foxies were also bred to hunt vermin, like rats and voles. But we didn't like that, so that is why there is a breed known as rat terriers. Though we are often mistaken for airedales, we are much cuter and smarter than our larger cousing.
love the picture of you in the sink!! a very thorough explanations on wires, asta :) can't wait to hear you sing
love..

Hi Asta! You're adorable!

Hey Asta, what an excellent job you did telling everyone about our wonderful breed. Aren't we just the best?!!! J x
Asta,
You described our breed and heritage perfectly. I love the pictures, you are a beautiful fun loving wirey girl. My parents think I'm a lunatic nut case, but I'm just doing what we wires do, entertaining them.
Luna Licks,
The Long Island Luna-tic
Asta, thank you for sharing the facts about your bweed. ;) I've always referred your bweed as the most adorable and the most stuffy look-like doggie. :) I love your royal picture.
Have a great walkie!
Momo xoxo
Boy Asta, love that pic with the WFT in the Elizabethan dress. It looks a lot like you, you regal girl! Thanks for the history. Lacie and I have to measure ourselves and see if we are square. I think Lac should be square too. Somedays she's just goofy! Square barks, Scruff
