My Spy assignment

Hi Evewyone..I'm BACK!!!!
I've completed my vewy dangewous and exhausting assignment successfully!

I owe all my spy knowledge to BobT. Beaw and his helpfull spy infomation..he is a mastew spy.

As some of you guessed, I went to Westminstew Doggie show in NYC.(not quite as good as MangoMinstew)
I had a supew secwet pwess Pass and wanted to show you some of the things you don't see on TV

The show stawted wif the Staw splangled bannew..aftew that it's all silent(well except fow all the hoomans talking in the audience)..not like the evening stuff fow TV whewe they announce things..so if you don't know the doggies fwom the expensive book you have to buy..you just know some numbew

I went behind the scenes to whewe the doggies wewe "benched"..I was vewy disappointed because fow the most pawt the ownews wewe not vewy fwiendly and only wanted to talk to othew ownews and handlews.

this dawling dachsie was chillin' befowe it was time fow him to make his entwance

don't you just love all those hoomans kneeling in awe, hehehehe

This is a vewy funny bweed..I think he's an impostow

a sweet dawling waiting to go on...as i said I was disappointed by the snobby cliquishness of many of the exhibitows..but the doggies wewe as oosual chawming and delightful

"Is it time yet?"

I thought I was seeing Rudy and his sissies..I just love Bedlingtons

and these cuties aways make me smile

then I spotted...(be still my heawt) An Aiweboy

and a Kewwy Blue
and the most laid back kid getting a pedicoowe and a floof up

this dawling needed a moment of pwivacy

I taped a little of the Caiwns , who, along wif the Aiwedales wewe jipped..wobbed of theiw chance to win the tewwiew gwoup....the handlew of the winning Caiwn, and the winning Aiwedale had a wowked wif the judge..sheesh..didn't they know that befowe they stepped into the wing???

no use complaining if you don't like the wesults

this fwenchie kid looked scawed

and how can they do this to a bootiful dignified , gowgeous poodel like the fouw Bs???

speaking of which..did you know that wiwey kids like me get white powdew floofed all ovew theiw legs (note to self..keep powdew by doow to covew diwt fwom stweet )

I don't think I've evew been that white

and I'm wathew suspicious of the evenness of the wusty face....(makeup?)

houws and houws of plucking and stwipping daily..I'm glad I'm not a show doggie

he is quite gowgeous , but a little too fowmal fow my taste

and then it's finally time fow theiw competition

I guess it's all wowf it when the guy kneels in fwont of you..a pawfect squawedog
(I have wealized that I will nevew come close to that, but A&A, and Luna, and Eric..they had nothing on you )

the mawch of the Wiwes..believe it ow not..that feistyness is vewy desiwable in the bweed

and when it's all ovew , they want a looooong snooze (notice that the white makeup has wown off)

This was the only wiwe I was able to see on the bench, although they awe supposed to be thewe thwoughout the day..thewe wewe fouw mowe cwates..but they wewe completely covewed, and when I twied to nicely talk to the ownew(ow handlew), They looked at me like I was something they just scwaped off theiw shoe....I guess they only love pawfect dogs and show dog ownews(ow pawspective clients)
this gowgeous aiwekid must have had a sense of the footility of twying to look youw best, when they don't even let you compete

I think a lot of my fwiends look just as faboolous ..what a hunk!

now, I couldn't believe my eyes..they wewe backcombing this booty's haiw
don't they know only Amy Weinhouse does that?

take note------------------------THIS IS A BIG BUM

that pictoowe is fow all of you who have made wude comments about my BFF Lacie's bum

speaking of Lacie, hewe is a bootiful Lakie giwl

like all of them, sweet tempewed , quiet, and lovely

myBFF Lacie and my bbffStella??????????????????pawhaps?

not to give the wong impwession..as you can see, thewe awe plenty of loving , nice ownews

and the most stylish coat was wown by a bootiful whippet (oh it's not a clothing competition?)

I asked this gowgeous giwl if she knows the whippet waggle..she looked at me wif pity and said"who doesn't"?

watching them wace awound the wing was a special tweat..I think we will be seeing some of the youngew membews of the waggle hewe soon

"what chu lookin at"?

I was astounded to see ....TANNEW ???... but it can't be , it must be Joey making a stain..but that doofus dot..I'm confoosed
I guess it's just a genewal twait of the boyz to go wound making those stains

that's all fow the fiwst day..I'm bone tiwed, and have to go to bed..but stay tuned..........
this welentlessly hooge is keeping his eaws clean fow the next days competition..

come back and see Mango's bwuvvew make an appeawance..as well as Tad's twin..and a slide show of about thwee hundwed pictoowes of evewyone

I'm sowwy I haven't visited..I hope you'we all well
love and smoochie kisses

Hi Asta,
Sorry to hear that some of the stuck-up owners/ handlers didn't let you make friends with their charge. They don't know what they are missing!!

Wow, that is a great commentary on the show, Asta! I can't believe the Cairns and the Airedales couldn't compete though...really sad. What happened? Some weird people, huh?

Can't wait to see more cool photos from you...hope you have a great week!

Asta,
Those photos are amazing. Some of those doggies are so white they glow in the dark.

Do you think that sheepdog's butt is even bigger than Lacie's?

I am soooo sorry if those snooty owners subbed you. Clearly they did not know who you are.

You know, they always pick a blond mastiff in the breed. I don't think the judges like stripey guys like me and Floyd.

Slobbers,
Mango

P.S. Petey has been a HUGE help. Now if I could just get those &*$%( blogger fonts under control.

Sweet Astaroni!

I can't believe those handlers and owners didn't just scoop you up and try to throw you in the ring instead of their own doggies. You are GORGEOUS and have that feisty terrier spirit, and are loving and so sassy! You could have won paws down. No doubt about it.

I'm glad you made it out okay after all the protesting and everything. Thanks for the outrage. It just goes to show that they need dogs in there to do the job right when choosing judges. If anyone should have been disqualified it should have been the judge. It's not the pups or the handlers faults.

Can't wait to hear the rest! Too bad all those owners and handlers missed out on meeting the biggest Sweetpea of them all!

Goober love & smooches,
Stanley

Oh Asta darling...thank you for showing us your undercover work! The doggies are divine to say the least. None as sweet as you that is the truth. I am so sad today. My friend whom I told you about a while back who has the WFT and walked in central Park and asked if your mommy was in the group with Joan Woodward...do you remember? She told me yesterday that her beloved Pia had to go to the rainbow bridge. Pia was 14 and blind and developed pancreatitis. Her mommy is devastated and heartbroken over this.
I will post a tribute to the wonderful WFT woofie Pia on Wednesday at my bloggy. I wonder if you would be so very kind as to come by and say a few words of comfort in the comments. Maybe some of your doggie friends might come too. It would mean so much to me to be able to show Pia's mommy the comfort of my doggie friends at this sad time of loss.
If you could somehow spread the bark about this I would be so grateful to you.
All my very best love to you Asta...

My mom has always wanted to go to Westminster! Shoot, she gets exciting just going to the Houston doggy show!

I think it's interesting that the evening commentators repeatedly mentioned that one of the advantages of a benched show (and there are only 5 in the US) is that anyone can go backstage and talk to the groomers/owners/handlers and find out more about the different breeds. They even recommended doing this if you're thinking of getting a dog and want to know more about the temperament of breed. Maybe they should be more concerned about the temperament and breeding of the humans!

Those Cairns were so cute but so wee! I told you that the show ring requires that males weigh 14 lbs and females 13! I weigh a solid 22lb and am not fat in the least! Mommy told me when I weighed 27 lbs (puppy fat) that I could compete as two dogs!

Great reporting!

Your pal,

Petey

Well, clearly the folks at Westminster don't know a true clebridog when they see one. Great photos. One question..why did you not bite the terrier judge when he disqualified the AireBoy. I probably would have

Well fabulous reporting job. Now as for the whiteness of those kids,Archie says that he knows for a fact that they get painted..CAN YOU IMAGINE the shock of it all...and that kid in the crate looks exhausted ,really this is much too strenous for these kids..... As for the sparring foxies? HA Arch and I would win HANDS DOWN!!!!! ( in fact we are so good at it we are not even allowed to enter the compettion becasue we would always win) Can not WAIT for round two reporting! Love and kisses A+A

Asta, we loved your report! Mama watched the show on TV - except she fell asleep last night and missed Best in Show. The Detroit Kennel Club show is a benched show, too, and Mama says that the humans are rude there, too. Why can't they all act like us furries? We would never act like that to each other.

Asta Darling,
Thank you so much for the inside view of the dog show. We so enjoyed your pictures. We watched the finals on Wednesday night. Grammie was so excited that she was able to pick the Best of Show. Isn't it sad that those dog people think they are so much better than everyone else. I am betting they put their pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. They don't know what they are missing by not being part of the DWB community.

hi Asta, you were a super excellent spy. we really enjoyed hearing your report and seeing all of those pictures and videos. we are really really really really (4 times) sad about the snobbiness of the humans at the dog show. we know about poodle snobs that we see at the dog park. they are always the ones with their foofy haircut and bare bottom poodles - they snob up their noses to us common dogs. it makes our mom mad and sad, but it only makes us sad because we know those dogs don't have as much fun as we do. we feel sorry for all of that hair cutting and dyeing and foofing and boredom. we wonder if those poofy white poodles don't just want to dig in the mud and roach in the grass.

we are thinking of Bart when we were watching the wireys. we should have lied to that lady so she would let us have him. dumb mom. it's always her fault.

woofs.

Asta...what amazing reporting!! You mean to tell me some of those owners/handlers thought you were a piece of chewing gum??? What flavor??? Frankly I love grape bubble...you probably like something orange and citrusey....

Those wires were wediculously white. Actually after seein' these pix and Mumsie talkin' to ur mommi, Mumsie seems more patient when we go and dig hooge holes and come in covered in mud and mulch. She said we had good lives even though we weren't powdered. Whatever...all I know is I love to chase deer and sniff stinky things and play bitey face with my bros outside...that's enuff of a pawfect life for me.

Barkies..

Laciegirl

If by some miracle Scruffy did make it in a show ring do you think he would express some of his more wretched flatus and clear the ring of all the competition?

Smart dogs, you Birchursts...

Great behind-the-scenes, Asta!!
Dog owners are a lot like cat owners at a beauty show... not all are friendly and there is a lot of coloring and masking the real doggy.

Asta, we are glad that your white fur is a natural white color!!

The typist is now searching for her favorite picture of one of her doggies -- where he is all covered in water and mud! ;-)

Great photographing job, Asta! The servant showed Lindy Loo's daddy Logan at Westminster to years ago. Maybe she can help with some of the misconceptions.
First, the Airedales certainly DID compete. At the breed level. Winning Best of Breed at Westminster is like winning the Kentucky Derby!!! The handler of the Airedale knew before he entered that he would not be able to show the dog in the group, with his former boss judging, but didn't want to deny the dog his day. He walked the dog into the group ring, to let the public see him, and then asked to be excused. Some dog folks think it was selfish of the owners because they denied some other Airedale a chance, but that's another argument...
About snobby owners. Westminster is one of the highest pressure siuations a show dog and its owners/handler will ever face. For the most part, if a dog is showing at Westminster, it is a dog who LOVES to show! BUT!!! at regular dog shows, the dogs hang out with their buddies. They aren't benched from 8 AM to 6 PM with nasty little indoor shavings boxes to potty in! (Oh and the WFT's were there, but most of them are shown by professional handlers because of the grooming involved, so they would be benched in the professional handlers' section, instead of with the breed.)
And imagine how exhausting it is for a dog to meet 110,000 visitors! If a poor doggie has arrived at 8 AM and doesn't show until 2 PM, the owner who LOVES their dog TRIES to give the dog a break. A little quiet time.
And the owners are NERVOUS! Scared poopless! So they might be a little jumpy but that's no excuse for bad manners.
Thanks for the photos of our whippet friends. That was Handy (the black dog), and Annie, and Glory who was jumping up for the treat. Glory ended up winning Best of Breed!! It was very wonderful, because Glory's human has had a sad year with her sweet 4 year old granddaughter bravely battling brain cancer.

Well we hope this helps a little.

wags from the whippets who wish our servant would get off her butt and get us out to a show.

Asta,

Just a quick note.
Is it REALLY true powdering your feet will keep it from being dirty (and leave nasty stain marks) from your feet? Cause if thats so, I'm gonna get M buy cartons of powder for me! She always spend a long time trying to groom me after walks!

Love,
Goofy (with stained paws)
